Young Talents
scholarship

Valuable financial support
for young artists

The bursary was created at the very first edition of the Festival Musique & Vin in 2008, and is made up of a collection of funds raised by the auction held each year at the end of the festival’s closing concert.

To be eligible for this grant, these young people must be enrolled in higher education establishments or courses dedicated to music and recognised in a European or American circuit. The Jeunes Talents scholarship provides solid support for its winners.

It helps them to promote the start of their careers as artists (concerts, records, etc.) so that they can embark on their international careers with greater peace of mind.

Distinguished in their careers, the winners of the Festival Musique & Vin au Clos Vougeot are also committed to performing in concerts organized by the festival alongside the greatest artists on the international music circuit.

Among these commitments, a highlight of the festival is dedicated to them: the free Jeunes Talents concert, which opens each edition. Originally held in the Halle de Beaune, since 2023 it has taken place in the courtyard of the Hospices de Beaune. This concert gives scholarship recipients the opportunity to perform alongside renowned musicians, in front of a large audience.

The Musique & Vin team has been committed to supporting and assisting them from the very first edition.

Martha Chan, flutist

Martha Chan, virtuoso flautist of Hong Kong origin, has established herself as one of the most promising young talents of her generation. Her musical career, which began at an early age, has been marked by success and prestigious distinctions.

Martha is currently studying at the Colburn School with Jim Walker. She holds a Master’s degree in flute performance from Rice University under the tutelage of Leone Buyse, and a Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music, under the direction of Bonita Boyd.

Her exceptional talent has earned her numerous awards, including first prize at the Donald Peck International Flute Competition in 2019. Martha made her solo debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2015, after winning first prize at the American Fine Arts International Competition. She also won first prize at the Vienna Virtuoso International Competition and was invited to the Mettallener Saal Musikverein. Winner of the London Virtuoso International Competition, she has been invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall.

The young flautist also shines on the international scene. She has taken part in many renowned festivals, including the Verbier Festival, the Spoleto Festival USA, the Aspen Music Festival and School and the Sarasota Music Festival.

As an orchestral musician, Martha Chan demonstrated her talent as principal flute at the prestigious National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute at the JF. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. Her refined playing and artistic curiosity have also led her to explore contemporary works, testifying to her openness to varied and demanding repertoires.

With her impeccable technique, profound musicality and commitment to her art, Martha Chan has established herself as an artist to watch closely in the world of classical music.

Marlen Bieber, mezzo-soprano

Marlen Bieber graduated from Clara-Wieck-Gymnasium and Robert-Schumann-Conservatory in Zwickau with a major in music. From 2016 to 2021, she continued her vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden under Margret Trappe-Wiel and Lothar Odinius. Her professional career began in 2020, when she joined the newly created opera studio at the Chemnitz Opera House. Since 2021, she has been a permanent soloist at this house, where she has performed roles such as La Muse Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Prince Orlofsky in La Chauve-Souris, Mercédès in Carmen, and Hänsel in Hänsel et Gretel.

Another of Marlen Bieber’s great passions is singing in concert. Under the baton of Hans-Christoph Rademann, she has appeared as soloist on numerous occasions, notably in Beethoven’s Mass in C major and numerous Bach cantatas. Highlights of her concert career include a recital at the Dresden Semperoper in 2019, her debut at the Dresden Music Festival in 2023 with David Chesky’s The White Rose, and performances of Mahler’s 8th Symphony with the Robert Schumann Philharmonie and the Jenaer Philharmoniker under Simon Gaudenz.

Marlen Bieber has also distinguished herself on the international stage: in 2024, she was awarded the Eva Kleinitz Prize at the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino and was a finalist in the Robert Schumann International Competition. She also won the DEBUT classical singing competition in 2022.

She will soon be appearing at the Gustav Mahler Music Weeks, where she will perform Mahler’s 3rd Symphony alongside the young members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera Chorus.

The young mezzo-soprano continues to perfect her art with renowned artists such as Brigitte Fassbaender, Hedwig Fassbender and Jukka Rasilainen. Her promising talent and captivating stage presence make Marlen Bieber an artist to watch closely in the world of classical music.
