AUCTION TO BENEFIT THE INSTRUMENTAL FUND AND YOUNG TALENT

Thanks to the generosity of donors and vineyards, the auction enables the realization of concrete projects in favor of young musical artists.

Every year, Musique & Vin au Clos Vougeot organizes a major auction, the proceeds of which are used to finance the development of the Instrumental Fund and award scholarships to promising talents on the classical music scene.

For this 17th edition, two auctions will be held in partnership with Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr. They will feature rare bottles from Burgundy and Champagne, direct from the estates, as well as exclusive experiences (tastings, private tours…).

Instrumental fund

A remarkable initiative that pays tribute to the Burgundy vineyards.

This fund provides support to young musicians who do not yet have the financial means to acquire a high-quality instrument.

From the very inception of the festival, Bernard Hervet and Daniel Weissmann, encouraged by Aubert de Villaine, were committed to supporting young artists who lacked access to fine instruments. They thus founded the Instrumental Fund of Musique & Vin at Clos Vougeot, entirely financed by the charity auction.

This exceptional initiative honors the prestigious Burgundy vineyards through the creation of string instruments, each named after one of the thirty-three Grands Crus.
Examples include the Günter Siefert 2014 violin, “Corton Charlemagne”, the Patrick Robin 2012 cello, “La Tâche”, and the Claude Macabrey 2013 viola, “Montrachet”.

Each instrument also bears a vintage label, “Musique & Vin at Clos Vougeot”. Today, the fund includes more than 20 violins, violas, and cellos and is further enriched by instruments generously loaned by private owners.

A look back at the hearings on April 1, 2025

18 young musicians performed at the Couvent des Cordeliers in Beaune to compete for an instrument from the Fonds Instrumental of Musique & Vin au Clos Vougeot. After remarkable performances and intense deliberations, 17 of them were selected.

They were able to talk to luthiers Antoine Gonon and Charles Cocquet and test out their new instruments, a valuable support for their musical careers. A unique springboard for these promising talents!

Fonds Instrumental entrusts the Greiner Quartet to Novo Quartet

Novo Quartet, a young Danish quartet, was unanimously chosen to play the two violins, viola and cello made by Peter Greiner. For several years to come, the young musicians will have access to these exceptional instruments, which were ordered from the maker in early 2024.

The aim of the audition day was to select the young quartet with the greatest potential for development. These instruments will enable them to find a sonic and artistic osmosis.

Kaya, Nicolaï, Sijna and Daniel, who have been playing together for 6 and a half years, won over the jury with their virtuosity, sensitivity and joy of playing together. Currently playing on disparate instruments, the young musicians should make spectacular progress thanks to this magnificent instrumental quartet.

It has been made in the same style and design, and the wood used for the backs comes from a single maple tree. Peter Greiner was on the jury, as were some of Europe’s leading quartet specialists/experts.

It’s a safe bet that these instruments will win them major international competitions.

Novo Quartet will perform at the Clos Vougeot Music & Wine Festival in 2026.
